Ante & Post Natal Pilates

If there’s one time when you most need professional guidance about your health and fitness, it’s during pregnancy, birth and beyond. We offer a 6 week course for small groups (one-to-ones also available) and adapt exercises to suit different stages and individual needs.

Ante-natal

Exercising through pregnancy has many positive benefits, and as long as the exercise is appropriate for each stage of pregnancy it is not detrimental to the health and well-being of you or your growing baby. Pregnancy is a time of great change, both physical and psychological and we have both the knowledge and experience to design a programme of exercise to support your changing body and developing baby. We recommend you start as early as possible into your pregnancy and are unable to take on new students in later stages of pregnancy (20 weeks plus)

Post-natal

Your life is transformed with a newborn baby, often in unexpected ways. Once you have had the go-ahead from your Doctor (minimum 9 weeks after birth, 12 weeks for C-section), we can help you to gradually and safely recover not only your figure and your muscle tone but your strength from within. If you suffer complications after childbirth, we recommend one-to-one sessions, which can be more closely tailored to you.

Here are just a few benefits: -
It is important to attend a class specifically adapted for pre-/post-natal ladies because after 20 weeks of pregnancy you’ll no longer be able to lie on your tummy or be able to exercise for long lengths of time on your back and after childbirth there are also a number of more vigorous Pilates movements that should be avoided. Classes are done in small groups (max 12) so hands-on guidance can be given to each participant and specific exercises recommended for those in different trimesters of pregnancy and post-natal recovery. If you haven’t done Pilates before, are 20+ weeks pregnant, have had complications during childbirth/pregnancy or would prefer more individual attention at a time to suit you; it’s worth investing in some one-to-one sessions. It is advisable for you (whether you are pregnant or a new mother) to obtain your GPs permission if you are new to this form of exercise.
